Dasman Diabetes Institute
Dasman Diabetes Institute is a nonprofit institute established under the patronage of the late Amir of Kuwait and operating under the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences. It combines diabetes treatment, research, training, and prevention to strengthen care across the country, and it is recognized as an International Diabetes Federation Centre of Excellence. The institute runs Kuwait's pediatric and national diabetes registry in a country with one of the world's highest rates of childhood type 1 diabetes. Its scientists study the genetics of type 1 diabetes in Kuwaiti children, including associations with HLA class II genes. It also sponsors type 1 diabetes clinical trials, from a structured education program to improve glycemic control in adolescents to a trial of tirzepatide in people with obesity and type 1 diabetes.
