David Nelms

David W. Nelms is a T1D Fund board member and the former chief executive officer and chairman of Discover Financial Services. Discover is the direct bank and payments company behind the Discover card, Discover Network, PULSE, and Diners Club International. He joined the company in 1998, led it as CEO until 2018, and stayed on as executive chairman until his retirement in early 2019. He also served two terms as a Class A director of the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago. His diabetes work flows through the T1D Fund, the venture philanthropy fund launched by JDRF, now Breakthrough T1D, that channels investment capital toward companies developing cures for type 1 diabetes.
