eGenesis
eGenesis engineers multi-gene-edited donor pigs to supply human-compatible cells and organs, with porcine endogenous retroviruses inactivated and immune-modifying edits added. Its diabetes program is evaluating gene-edited porcine islets as an unlimited source of insulin-producing tissue for type 1 diabetes. The islet work is preclinical, tested in non-human primates with partners including Massachusetts General Hospital as a prerequisite to human trials. eGenesis is not T1D-exclusive; its xenotransplantation platform also targets kidney, liver, and heart transplantation.
