Dr. Gary Meininger

Dr. Gary Meininger is executive vice president and chief medical officer at Sana Biotechnology. He leads clinical strategy for a pipeline that includes stem-cell-derived islet candidates for type 1 diabetes. Before Sana he headed clinical development at Vertex Cell and Genetic Therapies, across sickle cell disease, beta-thalassemia, type 1 diabetes, and Duchenne muscular dystrophy. He spent more than eight years at Janssen running programs for the diabetes drugs Invokana and Invokamet, after eight years at Merck on the Januvia and Janumet development teams. He has authored more than 60 publications and served a four-year term as the industry representative to the FDA Endocrine and Metabolic Drug Advisory Committee. He also sits on the Board of Trustees of the Joslin Diabetes Center.
