Iacocca Family Foundation

The Iacocca Family Foundation is a private grantmaking foundation established by Lee Iacocca in 1984 in memory of his wife, Mary K. Iacocca. She died of complications of type 1 diabetes after 34 years living with the disease. The foundation supports research aimed at curing diabetes and alleviating its complications, with a primary focus on type 1, and it has funded more than 40 million dollars in research projects. Joslin Diabetes Center has awarded more than 120 postdoctoral Mary K. Iacocca Fellowships in diabetes research supported by the foundation. Beyond diabetes research, it supports work on other autoimmune diseases, support programs, scholarships, and initiatives to widen access to fresh produce and healthcare. It is led by its president, Kathryn Iacocca Hentz, one of Lee and Mary Iacocca's two daughters.
