Jan Jensen, PhD
Jan Jensen, PhD, is a molecular developmental biologist who founded Trailhead Biosystems in Cleveland, Ohio, and serves as its chief executive and chief scientific officer. He holds the Eddie J. Brandon Endowed Chair of Diabetes Research at the Cleveland Clinic. He earned his PhD from the University of Copenhagen and has published more than 50 peer-reviewed papers across two decades of studying cell differentiation. He is the lead inventor of Trailhead's High-Dimensional Design-of-Experiments platform, which uses computational designs and robotic execution to map the signals that push stem cells reliably toward specific fates. He applies that platform to manufacturing pancreatic beta cells alongside neural, renal, cancer, and immunotherapy cell types. The pancreatic work targets scalable production of insulin-producing beta cells for cell replacement therapy in type 1 diabetes.
