Lane Desborough
Lane Desborough is a control-systems engineer who has spent his career making insulin delivery safer and simpler. He spent nearly two decades modeling and remotely monitoring automation systems for refineries, chemical plants, and power stations. He turned that expertise to type 1 diabetes when his son was diagnosed in 2009. At Medtronic Diabetes he led the engineering team behind the SmartGuard predictive low glucose management algorithm, now running in hundreds of thousands of insulin pumps. He rose to chief engineer for closed-loop insulin delivery. In 2013 he co-created Nightscout, the open-source CGM remote-monitoring system used by families worldwide, and coined the rallying cry We Are Not Waiting. He went on to co-found Bigfoot Biomedical as its chief engineer, and now leads Nudge BG, pursuing fully automated insulin delivery that asks nothing of the user.
