Mayo Clinic

The Mayo Clinic has positioned itself as the clinical partner for companies aiming to bring islet replacement therapy to the clinic for T1D. In April 2026, it entered a strategic collaboration with Sana Biotechnology on their hypoimmune-modified islet therapy designed to work without ongoing insulin or immunosuppression, contributing surgical technique, product handling and post-treatment protocols meant to transfer to sites beyond Mayo, and taking an equity stake in Sana. In June 2026, it began a second collaboration with Syntax Bio, whose CRISPR-based Cellgorithm platform programs induced pluripotent stem cells into beta cells in days to weeks rather than months, with Mayo supplying pancreatic biology expertise and preclinical testing toward regulatory-enabling studies.
