Sidra Medicine
Sidra Medicine is an academic medical center and biomedical research institute, a member of Qatar Foundation, providing specialist care for women and children. Its research department pairs clinical care with precision medicine and genomics, including diabetes and endocrinology work relevant to type 1 diabetes. Sidra Medicine won a JDRF grant to build a Middle East and North Africa program that combines autoantibody and genetic screening to predict type 1 diabetes risk in children. Its scientists also helped develop a microRNA based risk score, published in Nature Medicine, that flags people at high risk of type 1 diabetes before symptoms appear. The institute runs a stem cell diabetes research program working toward insulin producing cells for people with the disease.
