T1D Strong
T1D Strong is a nonprofit built for adults with type 1 diabetes, the part of the population most often missed at diagnosis. By its own account, more than 30 percent of people with T1D are first misclassified as having type 2. It publishes personal stories, education about adult-onset T1D, and material on early detection, written largely by people who live with the disease. Its main project is the T1D Strong DNA Test, a genetic screening tool it is developing with the consumer genomics services Genomelink and YourRoots. The test is meant to separate type 1 from type 2 at the point of diagnosis. It is not yet available: the organization says it is going through the FDA approval process and lists 2026 for release. It was selected as one of ten finalists at the American Diabetes Association's 2024 innovation challenge rather than as the winner.
