Dr. Tonny Tumwesigye

Dr. Tonny Tumwesigye, Executive Director of the Uganda Protestant Medical Bureau (UPMB), is a leading figure in improving care for people with T1D in Uganda. He serves as the principal director of the ALIGN-T1D Uganda initiative, which coordinates national advocacy and resources to improve T1D infrastructure across the country. Dr. Tumwesigye has provided instrumental institutional oversight in integrating type 1 diabetes management protocols into Uganda's National Essential Health Care Package. By leveraging UPMB's extensive faith-based health network, he works to bridge systemic gaps and improve sustainable access to medication, supplies, and education.
