Africa Diabetes Alliance
The Africa Diabetes Alliance is a community-based and community-led organization working in research, education, advocacy, and support for people living with diabetes. Edith Mukantwari, a nutritionist and diabetes educator who lives with type 1 diabetes, co-founded it in 2018 and serves as its executive director. The alliance promotes diabetes education and works to bridge the information gap for people living with diabetes, building community through peer support and nutrition guidance. Its remit covers diabetes broadly rather than type 1 alone. The type 1 thread runs through its founder, who was diagnosed as a teenager, first treated for type 2 diabetes, and learned only years later that she has type 1.
