Ellen Leake

Ellen Leake was elected chair of the Breakthrough T1D International Board of Directors, then JDRF, for a term beginning in 2018, having previously served as vice chair. She earlier chaired the organization's Development Committee, its Lay Review Committee, and its Information Technology Working Group. She is a member of the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases Advisory Council. In 1998 she and her husband joined friends to form the Breakthrough T1D Mississippi Chapter after their daughter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes as a child. Her volunteer service earned the organization's Jim Tyree Chairman's Choice Award. She leads a family timber and land development business in Mississippi after an earlier career as an executive in IBM's Financial Services sector.
