Researcher

Nidheesh Dadheech, PhD

Nidheesh Dadheech, PhD, is a stem cell scientist who directs the SUNY Center for Advanced Cell Therapy at Upstate Medical University. His lab builds next-generation regenerative therapies for diabetes from human pluripotent stem cell biology, islet bioengineering, and scalable manufacturing. His team develops ways to grow stem-cell-derived islets that could restore insulin production in people with type 1 diabetes. Before joining Upstate he led cell therapy and process development for the human iPSC-islet program at the University of Alberta, part of James Shapiro's effort to create personalized islet transplants. There he helped develop a scalable bioreactor suspension approach for generating stem-cell-derived islets from induced pluripotent stem cells.
