Racheli Ofir, PhD
Racheli Ofir, PhD, is the chief executive officer of Betalin Therapeutics, developer of the Engineered Micro-Pancreas (EMP), a cell therapy product meant to assist in islet engraftment. The EMP seats insulin-producing cells in a micro-organ matrix scaffold that recreates the supportive environment these cells need and counters the losses that limit transplanted islets. Betalin licensed the technology from the Hebrew University laboratory and ran GLP animal studies in 2022 as it approaches regulators for first-in-human trials, so the program remains preclinical. Prior to Betalin, Ofir was Vice President of Research and IP at Pluristem, the company behind the placenta-derived PLX cell therapies.
