Dr. Steve Edelman

Dr. Steve Edelman is an endocrinologist who founded the San Diego nonprofit Taking Control of Your Diabetes in 1995 to teach and motivate people in their own diabetes care. He was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at 15 and has spent his career treating the condition he lives with. He is a professor of medicine in the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism at the University of California, San Diego. He also directs the Diabetes Care Clinic at the VA Medical Center in San Diego. The nonprofit now runs national conferences, a podcast he co-hosts, and a continuing medical education program for clinicians. He has written five books, including a patient guide of the same name.
