Researcher

Dr. Trevor Reichman

Dr. Trevor Reichman is a transplant surgeon and scientist at the University Health Network's Ajmera Transplant Centre in Toronto. His research targets improved beta cell replacement therapies for diabetes. He is the first author of the 2025 New England Journal of Medicine report on the FORWARD study of zimislecel, the allogeneic stem-cell-derived islet therapy Vertex is developing for type 1 diabetes. In that interim analysis, every participant had detectable C-peptide and islet engraftment after a single portal-vein infusion. Among those who received the full dose, all were free of severe hypoglycemic events and reached a glycated hemoglobin below the treatment target. Ten of the twelve fully dosed participants used no insulin at all one year after infusion.
