Vertex Pharmaceuticals

Vertex is developing zimislecel, a stem-cell-derived islet therapy now in the Phase 3 FORWARD trial. The company ran its early trials under the name VX-880. In the trial's 2025 interim report, ten of twelve fully dosed participants were insulin independent one year after infusion. Vertex also has an encapsulated islet program, VX-264, and earlier hypoimmune work. Type 1 diabetes is one program among several at a company anchored in cystic fibrosis.
