Dr. Michel Revel, MD/PhD
Dr. Michel Revel is chief scientific officer and a director of NewcelX, and professor emeritus of molecular genetics at the Weizmann Institute of Science. His work isolating the human interferon beta gene produced Rebif, the multiple sclerosis therapy later sold to Merck Serono. He joined Kadimastem as chief scientific officer in 2010 and continued in the role after Kadimastem merged with NLS Pharmaceutics, which was renamed NewcelX. His laboratory then turned to human embryonic stem cells, producing nerve myelinating cells that regenerated the myelin coating in animals bred to lack it. That myelination work contributed to a suspension culture technology for growing human cells, including the insulin-producing pancreatic cells behind the diabetes program. He chaired the Israel National Bioethics Council, served on the UNESCO International Bioethics Committee, and won the Israel Prize for medical research.
