NewcelX

NewcelX is developing IsletRx, an off-the-shelf allogeneic supply of islets grown at scale on a human pluripotent stem cell platform. A micro-encapsulation layer built into the product aims to shield the transplanted tissue from the host immune system. In preclinical proof-of-concept work, the cells balanced blood sugar in immunocompetent diabetic mice and held it at normal levels over time. A companion preclinical program with iTolerance pairs the same cells with a microgel that provides local immune tolerance. The platform also produced AstroRx, an amyotrophic lateral sclerosis candidate that carried the company through earlier clinical work.
