Monica Westley, PhD
Monica Westley, PhD, is a cell and molecular biologist, and the founder and president of The Sugar Science, the digital platform connecting type 1 diabetes researchers worldwide. She brings a layered vantage point to the field as a parent, a bench scientist, and the architect of a global research community. Her career spans academic science and the life-sciences industry, from doctoral research in cell and molecular biology to roles at Merck and visiting professorships at Harvard and Brown. What began as a community linking parents to scientists studying the disease grew, under her direction, into The Sugar Science, built to reduce duplicated effort and accelerate collaboration across the field. A Yale-trained scientist and first-generation college graduate, she now works to connect the researchers whose collaboration can speed groundbreaking science into life-changing therapies for people living with T1D.
