Shanghai Changzheng Hospital

Shanghai Changzheng Hospital is a general teaching hospital of the Naval Medical University, and its organ transplant center runs an islet transplantation program. The transplant team, led by Dr. Hao Yin, works with the research group of Xin Cheng on islet tissue grown from endoderm stem cells. Together they reported the first exploratory transplants of autologous and allogeneic stem-cell-derived islets in people with type 1 diabetes in three recipients treated through the hepatic portal vein.
